Splash - A slice of Life
A Slice of Life - like yours or mine, but different…
“(...) Mike phoned the various schools, jubilant and the children were ecstatic when the announcement came over the loudspeaker, “It’s a boy!” Since it was the girls’ school’s 110th anniversary, they had gone to
school dressed in period pinafores and hats that I’d hired from the local theatre the day before. When they received the news, they were allowed to leave school immediately and they arrived at the hospital beaming from ear to ear and dressed like…. “Quakers”! By now word had got out around the ward that there was a mother of nine amongst them! What kind of woman could this be, they whispered and wondered. Well their theories were further compounded when the girls arrived at the hospital in their splendid “Quaker” outfits - long pinnies and frilly bonnets, slates and chalk still in hand…….“Oh yes,
welcome!” said the sister on duty, intrigued and raising an eyebrow, “You can go right through there!”
Bridget is a mother of 9 children and has just been diagnosed acute myeloid leukaemia. The extract above is from her online book, ‘Splash A Slice of Life’ about her life. Go4Word is assisting Bridget with selling her online book in order to raise funds for her medical treatment, and Cape Town Kids is happy to help them achieve this. Bridget wrote the book under a pseudonym Amelia Keating.
She is a warm and loving person who is always quick to offer a hug when she sees you. She is amazing with names (perhaps because she has so many to remember at home) and is always so good at asking after people by name. When meeting her, she is quick to offer compliments and praise. She doesn’t drive and has completed her doctorate in French. She loves her family beyond distraction and when there is a sports event or play that one of them is in, they all come to watch and support, even if they come in 2 cars! Despite her illness she is still so full of praise for other people and hasn’t lost her great sense of humour. Peter, her husband and all the children are holding it together but just can’t wait for their beloved wife and mum to recover.
We would like to assist Bridget in promoting her book. The book is about her life and is an amazing story. It can be purchased online for R120 from www.splash-thebook.blogspot.com.
