Butterfly World

Butterfly World is not only home to more than 24 species of exotic butterflies, but boasts a variety of birds, marmoset monkeys, and several magnificent iguanas. In addition, there are hair-raising displays of indigenous and exotic spiders and scorpions, housed in locked glass boxes.

They are raised on breeding farms in countries such as Costa Rica, Philippines, Malaysia and China. The pupae are then flown to display parks where the butterflies emerge into their tropical gardens. There’s display boards that outline the life-cycle, and which are dotted with pupae in various stages, and if you’re lucky you get to watch the fascinating process of a butterfly emerging.

We have many exciting projects lined up! We shall choose several from: exploring the theme of drawing and painting people and portraits in various media (acrylic on canvas being one); making clay relief tiles; a much loved project of etching in oil pastels, based on the work of Andrew Verster (and translated into other themes as well); creating personal heraldic coats-of-arms; and/or making chunky textured collages on an environmental theme.

Prices are R550 for the term or R70 for a lesson.

Baby Play Date

On Friday mornings from 10 am – 12 noon there will be a group for 6 – 12 month olds for Mommies and Daddies and babies to socialize. As we only charge from 10 months old the younger babies and their parents can come in completely for free. The 10 -12 month olds will be charged from R20 – R22 a once-off session (depending on their age).

Stellenbosch Waldorf School Open Day

There is a programme of talks, question time for parents and activities that children can participate in. Childcare is offered.

The Stellenbosch Waldorf School is an independent school where children from all the different communities that live in the Boland and Helderberg’s exquisitely beautiful towns and farms can develop into adults who have been empowered for thinking and living in a challenging world.

The Rainbow Puppet Theatre - Little Red Riding hood

Situated at the Constantia Waldorf School, tucked away in the Kindergarten building is the only permanent Puppet Theatre in South Africa. The Rainbow Puppet Theatre has been performing to the public every Saturday morning at 10h00 and 11h15 for 20 years (on 14th May 2012)! Our artistically painted theatre has a permanent team of five puppeteers complimented with full stage lighting, beautiful glove, rod and shadow puppets and even live music. We can seat up to 80 guests! Although our shows are widely regarded as entertainment for children, adults who come into contact with it soon fall under its enchanted spell. Aside from a few other stories, our Rainbow Puppet Theatre usually performs well-known Grimm’s Fairy Tales such as ‘Snow White and Rose Red’, ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and ‘Hansel and Gretel’. We have about 16 different stories altogether which rotates on a monthly basis.

The show for the Month of May is Little Red Riding hood. The Duration of the show is approx 35min.Parking is ample and free and we also have tea, coffee, juices and eats on sale.

Art in Public Spaces puts Cape Town in the spotlight for March 2012

The Africa Centre’s, Infecting The City Public Arts Festival, will explode on to the streets and public spaces of Cape Town for the fifth time from the 5th to the 10th March 2012.

Infecting The City is by far the largest and most diverse annual public arts festival in South Africa. This year, celebrated local and international artists will create artworks that unlock the communal spaces in the Cape Town City Centre. The art will encourage audiences to see, hear and smell the extraordinary by taking a fresh look at the Mother City, its citizens, and themselves in radically different ways.
