The annual Dance for All performance takes place on Saturday the 19th of November 2011 at 3pm. Seating unreserved, tickets available at the door.

All kids love balloons so this week we will be showing the kids some neat tricks with balloons and teaching them to make their own balloon animals! It’s harder than it looks and provides a balloon challenge that will have the kids entertained for the morning. Age group: 3-10 years.

The annual Delheim MTB day will take place on Sunday 20th of November at this popular Simonsberg Winefarm near Stellenbosch.  The beneficiary Anna Foundation will also have the local kids that ride with other fellow mountain bikers on great routes, which are not normally open to the public.
Riders and trail runners can choose a 7km option or the 12km ride.  Mountain bikers that need more of a challenge can attempt the 12km lap twice, as it has some good climbing and singletrack sections. Outdoor enthusiasts will love the fantastic trails in the Simonsberg Conservancy!
Cost ranges from R40 to R100 depending on distance and date of entry. Coffee & muffins will be available when registration opens at 07h00, but the first ride starts at 08h30. The organizers from Dirtopia will have waterpoints on the routes, time both the runners & the mountain bikers and there are great prizes to be won afterwards. 
Remember to book your lunch at the restaurant and enjoy the Spring day in the Stellenbosch winelands.

Carols by Candlelight at the Taalmonument
Well-known Drakenstein choirs will perform at the Carols by Candlelight at the Afrikaanse Taalmonument in Paarl. A combined mass choir will lead the audience in the singing of carols.
The concert, in aid of the Paarl Post’s Christmas fund, starts at 19:00 on the stage on the lawn and ends at 21:00. Guests are welcome to bring a candle, a blanket and their own picnic basket.

Marmo will make guest appearances at V&A Waterfront as well as the Two Oceans Aquarium and Puma Quad Store for story-time readings of his book: “Marmo Saves Our Seas”

Marmo tells the story in a way that is captivating, fun and easily understandable for young children. He explains what small changes we can make in our lives – like giving up plastic bags – to better the world’s oceans and aquatic life.

As PUMA’s boat Mar Mostro (Monster of the Sea) makes its epic journey around the world in the 2011-2012 Volvo Ocean Race (VOR), Marmo will be featured in an online marine conservation education programme, relaying his experiences at http://www.puma.com.

Children and their families will be able to track Marmo’s adventure with the PUMA boat crew, learning about marine issues, habitats and sea creatures along the race route. Educational games and quizzes about ocean conservation will also be available online.

The Africa Centre’s, Infecting The City Public Arts Festival, will explode on to the streets and public spaces of Cape Town for the fifth time from the 5th to the 10th March 2012.

Spier wine farm’s annual ‘Festival of White Lights’ on Friday 9 December is a fun way to celebrate the start of the festive season with the family. The ‘Festival of White Lights’ includes a dazzling display of light and a diverse collection of artistic performances choreographed by Jay Pather.  This includes a journey across the grounds winding through Spier’s heritage Cape Dutch monuments which boast 21 gables.

A procession, led by Spier’s ‘Angel of Light’ starts on the lawns alongside the Spier dam at 20h00. It ends at the Spier Hotel with a free glass of 21 Gables Chenin Blanc or 21 Gables Pinotage for adults.

Arrive early, dress warmly and book at Spier’s Farm to Table Eight restaurant to enjoy a meal before the event begins (not included in price). Linger longer after the event at the Spier Hotel Wine Bar and relax to the sound of bluesy tunes.

It is always with great pleasure that Noordhoek Farm Village plays host to the annual Carols By Candlelight service with the South African Navy Band in aid of St Luke’s Hospice. The evening is a fun-filled family affair with a celebration of not only the festive season but the joy of living and the joy of giving.This year there will be a Christmas Market at Noordhoek Farm Village, featuring some fabulous products for Christmas – from gifts to ornaments. Our retail shops will not be open but you can find their best sellers at the market.
As always we like to entertain our little people and this year we will invite the children to bring their letters to Santa and post them in the Big Red Postbox which is bound for the North Pole. Please address all letters to Father Christmas and put your parents names on the back of the envelope so Santa Claus knows where you live. We will have a table available for writing letters to Santa. Santa’s helpers will be assisting with the process and handing out goodie bags to the children.
We are delighted to welcome the Masiphumelele choir back this year – they were a popular addition to the programme last year and they are looking forward to participating again at Carols By Candlelight this year – the choir is lead by HAPPY who works at Noordhoek Farm Village.

THE DESIGNER-MAKER FESTIVE MARKET LAUNCHES ITS FIRST “DESIGNER-MAKER JUNIOR” SECTION – A MARKET RUN BY KIDDIES, AND FOR KIDDIES – IN CONJUNCTION WITH KIDS DÉCOR AUTHOR SAM SCARBOROUGH, CREATOR OF “KIDS MARKET DAYS”

Designer-Maker Junior Market” will form part of the third festive exhibition and market set to take place from 14-16 December at the Freeworld Design Centre courtyard, along Cape Town’s Fan Walk. This section of the market will be dedicated to the young and young at heart and will be run by Sam Scarborough of Kids Décor.

Sam’s original concept will be in place at Freeworld’s Designer-Maker market, but has also been expanded in collaboration with the Freeworld Design Centre. The Kids Market Day at the Designer-Maker Market will now include an array of entertaining parent-child activities such as designing your own festive items from brightly coloured felt. There will also be a “mix, purchase and play” play dough station for the very little ones. In all, a host of positive and creative activities that will engage and help develop budding creative and conceptual skills. The kiddies section will also be beautifully decorated by Sam Scarborough and promises a visual feast of delightful ideas for kids, such as bunting, a tiny teepee, and a charming gazebo.  Sam’s latest book will be on sale in the kiddies’ section and she will be on hand to sign copies.

The market itself closes at 21h00, and there are food and designer goods stalls available.

The Caretaker, an original Zip Zap Circus School show, choreographed by Adele Blank of Free Flight Dance Company, combines theatre, dance and circus in a show not to be missed.
This is a Zip Zap show with a difference. The show is set in a quaint apartment block inhabited by a kaleidoscope of young people and focuses on the caretaker and a homeless soul, who play an endless game of cat and mouse.

Saturday 17th Dec (09h00-13h00) sees the launch of our exciting Baby & Kids Lifestyle Market at the Obs Recreation Centre (see Baby & Kids Lifestyle Market on Facebook).

Come one, come all! Bring the family and a picnic supper and enjoy a fabulous sleepover at the Aquarium. Start your evening with a festive arrival drink and fruit mince pies, before making your way into the Aquarium to set out your bedding.

Face painting and arts ‘n crafts (their very own fishy Christmas stocking to take home) will keep the young ones entertained, before a surprise visitor makes his arrival known with a jolly Ho, HO, HO which can only mean that presents will be opened soon! The evening is made complete with hot chocolate and a movie on our big screen TV. When tired yawns start to make their appearance, crawl into your sleeping bag and drift off to dreamland under the watchful eye of ragged-tooth sharks and all the other amazing animals in the I&J Predator Exhibit. From 19 December 2011 till 8 January 2012, the Aquarium will be open from 09h00 till 20h00 (Christmas Day closing at 18:00). This means you can still enjoy a full day of going to the beach, hiking, shopping or sightseeing and end it off with a fun and relaxing visit to the Aquarium.
So, spend an early evening by leisurely strolling through the Aquarium and remember to invite your friends & family to join you for supper at Shoreline Café while your children are entertained in the I&J Children’s play area.

During the month of December there will be NO Saturday shows at The Rainbow Puppet Theatre, instead (back by popular demand)we will be doing 4 Special Christmas performances of The Christmas Rose combined with Carols by Candlelight.

Six fun workshops are being held at Constantia Bowling Club for children in December 2011.  Experienced players will supervise the children.

Pedro Espi-Sanchis returns to the Kalk Bay Theatre with a musical adventure story for the summer holidays,THE MERMAID FROM ZANZIBAR. 

The place is Zanzibar, the year is 1873, and the slave trade has just been outlawed. The heroine of the story is Zanzi, a very independent and very musical mermaid.  When she has to fight for her freedom her friends from land and sea unite to help her.

THE MERMAID FROM ZANZIBAR was sold out in its two earlier runs at Kalk Bay Theatre and Out the Box, and it got rave reviews from young and old.

  Like all of Pedro’s shows, this one celebrates world music, and it features a whole array of instruments and some wonderful new songs. Instruments are made out of all kinds of marine materials – dry seaweed, shells, driftwood -  even fishing rods and ship-wrecked treasure are used to make magical sounds. Of course, Pedro cannot play all of these instruments on his own, and participation from the audience plays a major part.

Six fun workshops are being held at Constantia Bowling Club for children in December 2011.  Experienced players will supervise the children.
