The WILD Guide
Wild animals in their natural habitat have always fascinated human kind. Once out of survival needs, today the educational drive is the stronger force, and perhaps also an urge to see the wild creatures up close without having to risk your life…
In the Western Cape today, we can enjoy a variety of bird life and small animals around us, but in order to experience ‘the wild’, we need to seek this out specifically. There are various options for viewing the Big 5 within 2-3 hours drive from Cape Town, and many of these private game reserves offer accommodation and safari packages. We will offer more information about these options in the future. If you have specific requests, please contact us and we will do our best to help.
For personal encounters in closer distance to the city, try the following places:
- The Giraffe house Wildlife Awareness Centreoffers an educational look at South African animals, as well as an up-close encounter with reptiles from around the world.
- The Cheetah Outreach projectat Spier in Stellenbosch aims to educate the public about these fascinating animals and prevent further threats to their existence.

- World of Birds is a popular destination for visitors to the ‘republic of Hout Bay’.
