Boulders Beach
A safe, friendly beach where you can swim with African penguins and have a picnic!
Where else in the world do you find a beautiful, sandy beach surrounded by great rocks for sunbathing, where you can swim and play with (mostly) friendly but wild penguins? The water is clear and there are no dangerous currents due to the protected location, so this is one of the most pleasant beaches to take children to. Kids in all ages love watching the penguins transform from seemingly clumsy waddlers to speedy, perfected swimmers and try to interact with them. But stay at a respectful distance - they are known to "nip" if you come too close! Take time to visit the information centre as well, and learn more about these fascinating creatures. After a good swim, you can have an ice cream from the shop, a picnic on the beach or try out one of the places in Simonstown for a meal. And remember to check for penguins under your car before you leave :0)
