Libraries

Encourage reading and support your local library!

Libraries are increasingly becoming an "endagered species" through the extensive use of internet and TV as sources for research and entertainment. But a library can offer so much more - a quiet space to read or do research for homework, a place in your community to meet others for storytelling, or simply a treasure chest for a book worm who can’t afford to buy all the books they would like to read! Remember that the library "lives" through the dynamics of books being borrowed and brought back, so take out a book for you and your child every time you visit! The local branches vary a lot in terms of how well equipped they are with children’s sections, so take the opportunity to teach your child about "indoor voice" and quiet spaces, even when they can hardly contain their excitement over all the books available.
