Operation Shoebox
Help us enrich the lives of Cape Town's children
Founded in 2006, Operation Shoebox collects shoeboxes filled with Christmas goodies for children from disadvantaged communities across Cape Town, South Africa.
Since our inception we have raised and donated over R 600 000 worth of goods to 3 800 children across 22 charities in Cape Town. We hope that this year, with your help, we will be able to find sponsors for a further 3 000 children.
Our philosophy is simple. We believe every child should be spoilt and loved, not only at all Christmas, but all year round. A single snowflake can cause an avalanche!
Each year we approach charities in Cape Town and ask them to submit lists of the children in their care. We then find sponsors to ‘adopt’ each child and make up a shoebox filled with Christmas goodies for that particular child. Sponsors are supplied with the child’s name and surname, age, gender, clothing and shoe size, and where possible a little snippet of information on their hobbies and interests. This enables the sponsor to personalise the gift for that particular child.
We have drop-off points across Cape Town. Once you have made up your box, you simply drop it off at your chosen drop-off point and we do the rest. Sponsors are welcome to be involved in the sorting and distribution of the boxes, and where possible, are able to meet their chosen child. This is normally facilitated via one of our Christmas tree events.
Be a part of the magic this year!
